Workshop on Lebanon accession to Agadir Agreement
Ministry of Economy and Trade organized a workshop on Lebanon’ accession to Agadir agreement with the cooperation the Technical Unit of Agadir Agreement at the Ministry’s headquarter in Beirut on July 12th & 13th 2018 to discuss the Agadir agreement; the importance of Lebanon’ accession in addition to the accession’ subsequent steps that shall be taken by concerned parties from both public and private sectors.
Overview of Agadir Agreement
- Agadir pact was first launched in Morocco in May 2001 whereof Jordan, Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco expressed their will to establish a free trade area between them supported by the European Union.
- The four members countries signed the Agadir agreement in Rabat, Morocco in February 25th, 2004.
- Agadir agreement came into force in July 6th, 2006 once the four members countries completed the ratification requirements.
- The real implementation started in March 27th, 2007 after the publishing of customs circulars of the four member countries.
Agadir Agreement Aims
- Foster the commercial exchange between the four countries, on one hand and between the four countries and the European Union on the other hand.
- Increase the economic integration between the four countries (in particular the industrial integration) through the implementation of Pan Euro-Med Rules of Origin.
- Attract European and world Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) through Agadir market which currently comprises more than 120 million consumer.
- Apply the cumulation of origin concept between the agreement members countries.
