Minister of Economy and Trade spoke with @JoumannaTV on Bloomberg

Tue 15 April 2025

I spoke with @JoumannaTV on Bloomberg @Business about Lebanon’s economic priorities and our path forward.

• This is not meant to be an IMF program for the sake of having an IMF program — it’s about restoring growth and prosperity to the Lebanese people.

• A per capita income of $4,000 is unacceptable. Lebanon should be significantly higher — that’s what we’re working to change.

• We’ve been in government for just 2.5 months and already passed two of three major steps: removing bank secrecy and setting a legal framework for crisis resolution.

• Depositor protection is a top objective. No one should lose their deposits — it may take time and creative instruments, but that’s our commitment.

• This is not a process of one winner and one loser. We need a collective solution that includes banks, the central bank, and the state — everyone has a role.

• Without sovereignty and the state’s monopoly over arms and land, you cannot expect sustained economic growth.

• We’re planning an investor confidence conference in September. The message is clear: Lebanon is back in play — and back in business.
