Visit of the Ambassador of Cyprus to Lebanon

Minister Amin Salam started his meetings on Friday by pursuing his diplomatic initiative and meeting with the Ambassador of Cyprus to Lebanon Maria Hadjitheodosiou in the Embassy’s headquarter in Yarzeh; as part of his movement toward Arab and regional countries in order to keep the communications lines opened to inform them about the latest current situation’ updates ; to comprehend their available information and support on all levels, if possible, under this continuous aggression that Lebanon is going through.
In this regard, Minister Salam conveyed his thanks to the Cypriot Ambassador for facilitating the reception operations of the Lebanese who preferred to leave Lebanon temporarily given the fact that Cyprus is a close neighboring and nearby country.
Moreover, Minister Salam was informed from Ambassador Maria Hadjitheodosiou about the Cypriot Government’ plan elaborated to help evacuating the European Union citizens and other foreign citizens under the weight of the military escalation.
Minister Salam also thanked the Cypriot Ambassador for the European Union contribution in all efforts exerted by the Union to support Lebanon during this difficult period, including the humanitarian aids provided to Lebanon amounting till present to more than 104 million euros this year (about 115 million dollars).
Furthermore, Minister Salam explained to the Cypriot Ambassador the country’s general situation; in particular the necessity to provide humanitarian aids and adequate accommodation places for the displaced people whose areas are being exposed to Israeli aggressions in addition to meet their daily needs. He addressed a request to provide assistance in order to support and equip the shelters centers, such as schools and buildings, that opened their doors to welcome the displaced people; in particular the “Quality in” hotel at the Rachid Karami International Fair in Tripoli which extends over one million square meters to be at the service of the displaced people.
On her turn, Ambassador Maria Hadjitheodosiou thanked Minister Salam for his visit and affirmed that the Government and people of Cyprus are standing with the Government and people of Lebanon. Her Excellency stated that providing humanitarian support and secure evacuation routes are among the priorities of Nicosia and the Cypriot Government.
