Minister of Economy and Trade Raed Khoury sponsored the agreement signing ceremony to build a solar in Triploi

Minister of Economy and Trade Raed Khoury sponsored the agreement signing ceremony to build a solar power plant between the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Tripoli and North Lebanon and the Board of Directors of Rachid Karami International Exhibition Center, in the presence of the latter’s Chairman Akram Awida, the Chamber President Toufic Daboussi, the Coordinator of Tripoli Body Dani Moussa representing the Minister of Foreign Affairs Gebran Bassil in addition to the mayors of the region and Member of Parliament Khodr Habib.

In this occasion, Minister Khoury said: “I have the honour to be present at Rachid Karami International Exhibition Center being one of the main engines of the economic situation in Tripoli for it possesses characteristics and infrastructures that qualify this city to be the second most important city after Beirut on the economic level”.

In this regard, Minister Khoury stressed on the importance of the agreement that will be concluded in terms of “the electricity powered by these panels will be offered for granted to the municipality of Tripoli, the port, the economic area and the exhibition center, which means that the main economic components in the North will benefit from this power; allowing to increase their productivity and consequently, brings advantage to the region’ economy. It is to mention that the supplied power will be classified as renewable energy which allows for Lebanon to comply with the provisions of the international agreements leading to increase the production of the renewable energy, on one hand and transform Lebanon into green economy that encourages the execution of environment-friendly projects, on the other hand”.

Moreover, Minister Khoury met at the morning the Knowledge Economy Association and the Entrepreneurs Club at the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture in Tripoli where a group of youths  presented economic and technology projects in addition to the challenges they face.  

In parallel, the Order of Engineers and Architects in Tripoli organized a conference entitled: ”the economic plan in Lebanon” attended by economic and political actors from Tripoli where Minister Khoury explained in details the economic challenges as well as the plan that the government is working on for the economic recovery. In this regard, he stressed on “the vital role that the North may play in terms of the lebanese economy in the event a comprehensive economic plan was made to revitalize the role of Klayaat International Airport for civil and commercial aviation in addition to Tripoli Port, Rachid Karami International Exhibition Center and the free economic zone that should be considered a model to attract foreign investments toward Lebanon.”

Minister Khoury ended his visit to Tripoli by meeting the Free Patriotic Movement Body in Tripoli where he listened to the economic and social challenges and promised to offer amounts of money to support Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) and attract investments toward Tripoli.
