The Minister Raed Khoury presided this morning over a meeting for the inspectors of the consumer protection directorate regarding generators
Read in ArabicMinister of Economy and Trade, Raed Khoury, presided this morning over a meeting for the inspectors of the Consumer Protection Directorate with the presence of the Director General, Alia Abbas; the Director of the Consumer Protection, Tarek Younes and senior executives at the Ministry during which the Minister gave inspectors necessary directives and instructions to be applied during the generators inspection process in all Lebanese regions.
To this end, Minister Raed Khoury said to the inspectors : “I pursued what you have done yesterday and let me, at the outset, congratulate you on your success, since you had drawn up 61 seizure reports. It is worth mentioning that you had shown a high level of expertise, professionalism, strict observance and courtesy when dealing with the generators owners for we are working in a Ministry that respect itself. I want you to know that I can see myself in you and therefore, I am urging you to pursue what you have already started in all regions without any exemption as from today till Friday to cover all regions across Lebanon. It is expected that the task will proceed next week by following the same procedures in order to implement the decision. In the event the said decision is not complied with, a seizure report should be drawn up until progress has been made.”
Furthermore, Minister Khoury added: “It is no secret that some regions abide by the decision more than others. For this purpose, the media will visit these latters. As for the ones where little commitment is shown, I am pretty sure that the coming weeks will show some progress to this extent; noting that no problem had occurred yesterday. Everyone of you acts as being the Lebanese Republic, the Minister of Economy even as the lebanese legitimacy. Do not hesitate nor burden yourself, for all the Lebanese Government stands behind you. I heard some criticism from the generators’ owners; however our perspective remains the same: the decision is valid and applicable. It is to mention that the generators’ tariff determined by the Ministry of Energy is fair and higher than the previous one by 35%, which is considered a quantum leap in this regard.”
Minister Khoury added: “All you have to do in the coming days is to extend the State authority over the lebanese territory. You exert all your efforts for the citizens’ sake as well as the Consumer Protection Directorate works to protect them, especially that the generators are considered a heavy burden on the consumer and consequently constitute a significant part of his monthly income. It is well known that the generators’ owners are exploiting the consumer. For this purpose, we hope that stability will be spread once this new decision is enforced.”
