Salam met the World Bank Executive Director in Washington:
The priority for food and social security
Minister of Economy and Trade of the caretaker government, M. Amin Salam, resumed his visit to Washington. To this end, he visited the World Bank´ headquarter and discussed with its Executive Director, Mansour Chemaly, the joint projects; namely those related to the food safety of the Lebanese population. Moreover, discussions tackled the work plan of the World Bank in Lebanon, especially completing the approval procedures and signing the following two agreements approved by the World Bank:
1- The second stage of the Emergency Social Safety Net Program in Lebanon, a US $300 million project to help the extremely poor and vulnerable Lebanese families. The World Bank approved this project on May 26th, 2023.
2- The Green-Agri Food Transformation for Economic Recovery (GATE) Project in Lebanon, a US $ 200 million project approved by the World Bank on June 28th, 2023.
Furthermore, both parties stressed the necessity to speed up the approval of necessary reform laws to help Lebanon begin the path to economic recovery.
