Salam met the World Bank delegation
And discussed of new programs implementation
Minister of Economy and Trade, Amin Salam, welcomed the World Bank Vice President for Middle East and North Africa, Ferid Belhaj, and the World Bank Country Director for the Middle East Department Jean-Christophe Carret. Discussions tackled projects executed by the World Bank in Lebanon, namely the implementation process of the Bank loan agreement to import wheat.
In this regard, the meeting also broached the measures taken by the Ministry of Economy to assure the food security for the Lebanese, whereof the wheat comes on top of it; under the challenging economic and living circumstances. To his turn, Minister Salam discussed with the delegation of the new project in terms of the food security “The Gate” aiming to boost the food security in Lebanon through agriculture, renewable energy and irrigation projects. In addition, Salam stressed the necessity to keep supporting the social security network and increasing the beneficiaries’ number during the coming months.
In a related context, Salam assured that the Ministry will provide the stability of the loaf which was achieved by the loan agreement as well as the measures taken by the Ministry to prevent any manipulation of the weight of the loaf.
