Salam meeting the Executive Director for the International Monetary Fund in Washington
Lebanon is a Middle Eastern model that deserves to live
As part of his visit to Washington, Minister of Economy and Trade, M. Amin Salam, held a meeting with the Executive Director for the International Monetary Fund responsible for the Lebanese file, Dr. Mahmoud Mohi El-Din, the Senior Advisor Maya Choueiri and the Advisor Mira Merhi to discuss the latest development regarding the Lebanese file.
The parties stressed the necessity for Lebanon to execute the reforms stated in the Staff-Level Agreement concluded in April 2022 with the International Monetary Fund as soon as possible for any delay in this regard is not in Lebanon´ interest; especially that the international circumstances witnessing economic setbacks, catastrophes and epidemic spread will gradually reduce Lebanon´ opportunity to sign an agreement with the IMF and get the support of the International Community.
In this regard, Salam highlighted the need for continued international support to Lebanon during the current critical period. Minister Salam also pointed out that, despite all these challenges, Lebanon showed resilience based on the citizens´ willingness to get up again; the thing that constitute a middle eastern model that deserves life and support.
Furthermore, Salam stressed the importance of the IMF delegation´ next visit to Lebanon expected at the beginning of next week in order to hold series of detailed meetings to discuss the necessary steps that shall be taken before the end of the current year, expected to have huge consequences on all levels with the IMF, the donor countries and the international community.
