The Qatari Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi, confirmed during his meeting with the Lebanese Minister of Economy Amin Salam the readiness of Doha to provide 3 substitute power plants to the Lebanese party in partnership with the French company "Total".

During his visit to meet with most prominent Qatari officials, Minister Salam discussed with Al Kaabi the crisis of the high power costs (among the highest in the world) considered to be the main cause of the services and goods´ prices increase by 50%, as the main obstacle for the plants´ production costs to for institutions and companies.

Given that Doha did never hesitate to help Lebanon and provide adequate solutions, the Qatari Minister assured his country´s readiness to assume the construction of three substitute power plants in partnership with the French giant energy, as a rescue step for both the national economy and the country.

Moreover, Qatari Minister confirmed to Minister Salam that this grant is soft and on concessional basis, consisting that the Lebanese side shall provide the necessary lands to implement this plan; provided that the Lebanese authorities shall choose their locations based on priorities and needs.

As for the production capacity of the three plants, the Qatari side estimates it of 500 megawatts, i.e. ranging between 25 & 30% of Lebanon´ needs today of the power (2500 megawatts nearly) if the sources of private energy power (solar energy) owned by the Lebanese estimated of 1000 megawatts were deducted.
