Ministry of Economy and Trade confirms the continuation of daily markets’ follow up through periodic inspections performed by the Consumer Protection Directorate on the Lebanese territories.
Considering the recent governmental measures, the Ministry emphasizes the need for increasing inspections and control campaigns during the coming period; assuring that it will not tolerate any violations or unjustified prices increases as it violates consumer rights and disrupts market’ stability. Moreover, the Ministry affirms that any price exploitation or manipulation is unacceptable and it will be subject to appropriate legal actions.
These campaigns come as a continuation to series of meetings held by His Excellency Minister of Economy and Trade with both the supermarkets and bakeries’ syndicates where the commitment of the concerned parties not to increase the prices and to assume their responsibility at this stage was reaffirmed.
The Ministry also recalls the “Sawa bil Siyam” initiative where 27 major supermarkets undertook to offer prices reduction by 15% at least on 21 most-consumed essential food items, in a move aiming to ease the living burdens and enhance the social stability.
The Ministry will successively resume publishing periodic reports issued by the Consumer Protection Directorate to promote transparency and to inform the public.
