Ministry of Economy and Trade Minister Bteish met today Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Ministry of Economy and Trade, Minister Bteish, met today Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjarto, accompanied by Hungarian Ambassador to Lebanon, Geza Mihalyi, in the presence of Director General of Economy and Trade, Alia Abbas and discussed the bilateral ties between Lebanon and Hungary.  

Talks tackled economic, touristic and cultural issues as well as ways of bolstering them and the possibility of opening air routes between Beirut and Budapest to be considered a key transportation hub between Europe and the region.

Both parties also agreed on the necessity of holding a meeting of the Joint Economic Committee as soon as possible in order to set a joint action plan to foster the trade and investment exchange between the two countries.

In this regard, Hungarian Minister asserted that a line of credit in the amount of 41 million euro was granted to finance joint projects between Lebanese and Hungarian businessmen. 

On his turn, Minister Bteish addressed the greatest challenges that Lebanon is facing, stressing on the impact of the Syrian refugees on the economy and hoping to support Lebanon in European forums to facilitate the refugees’ return to their country of origin. In addition, Bteish welcomed the fruitful cooperation and means of boosting relations  between the two countries.
