Ministry of Economy and Trade launches the “National Trade Help Desk” to support the Lebanese small Medium Enterprises (SMEs)
Ministry of Economy and Trade launched on Monday, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the National Trade Help Desk, a platform aiming to support the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Lebanon.
The event was attended by His Excellency, Minister of Economy and Trade, Ambassador of Canada to Lebanon and Syria H.E. Gregory Galligan, the UNDP Resident Representative in Lebanon, Blerta Aliko in addition to representatives of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture as well as number of experts and interested parties. On his turn, the Director General of Economy and Trade, Dr. Mohamad Abou Haidar introduced a Power Point presentation about the platform’ work mechanism.
In his speech, Minister Bisat described the initiative as being more than just a technical update, stating: “this project may seem technical in nature but it is a structural update within a more comprehensive reforming process.” He also highlighted the importance of small and medium enterprises representing 90-95% of the private companies that hire half of the labor force: “these enterprises create job opportunities, sustain markets’ vitality and innovate despite the challenges. Many of them face difficulties not only in obtaining funding but also in dealing with complex procedures”.
