
Ministry of Economy and Trade intensifies its inspection tours during the month of Ramadan and the Great Lent
to control the prices and protect the consumer.
Beirut, March 5th 2025- The Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade, Dr. Amer Bisat, declared that the Directorate of the Consumer Protection had intensified its inspections tours on commercial stores, food warehouses as well as vegetables and fruits markets from the beginning of the Ramadan month and during the Great Lent period, based upon the recommendations issued to control the markets and protect the consumers’ rights.
To this end, the Minister affirmed that seizure reports were made against the violators whereof the offences included unjustified increase in prices, lack of food safety conditions and seizing expired items. Consequently, the Ministry referred 31 seizure reports before the competent courts in order to take adequate legal proceedings against violators.
Moreover, Minister Bisat highlighted that the Ministry will pursue its intensified inspection tours during the month of Ramadan to side with citizens and consumers against any illegal exploitation. He also stated that he will soon bring up the constitution of the General Authority for Competition to prevent monopoly and safeguard the national economy to the Council of Ministers.
Minister Bisat also urged the citizens to contribute in the market control through reporting on any offence or exploitation that they may face, by directly submitting their complaints to the Ministry through the electronic application “MOET Digital Services” available on all smartphones using the following link: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6483808579/.
At the end, Minister Bisat concluded by warning whoever dare to double his profits illegally; affirming that the Directorate of the Consumer Protection will keep on pursuing violators and take all necessary legal proceeding against them.
