Ministry activities date 7-5-2020
Minister of Economy and Trade, Raoul Nehme, launched this morning a volunteer training session in Hadath Municipality Headquarter to help the Consumer Protection Directorate, in the presence of the Consumer Protection Director, Tarek Younes; and a representative of Hadath Municipal Council, Georges Haddad and number of volunteers participating in the training session.
Mr. Georges Haddad began the session by welcoming Minister Nehme stating that Hadath Municipality has been already cooperating with Ministry of Economy and Trade whereof it was the first municipality to seize an electricity generator for their owners had violated the applicable regulations.
To this end, Haddad reiterated the municipality’ cooperation with the Ministry to better serve the public interest.
In his turn, Minister Nehme thanked the municipalities for their cooperation with Ministry of Economy and Trade in the markets inspection. He stressed that municipalities have wide powers in this regard and if they had cooperated with the Ministry there would have been a total compliance. In addition, he thanked the municipality for its active and constructive cooperation with the Ministry.
Minister Nehme also stated that the Ministry is ready to train members from different municipalities to help protecting the consumer in this current situation and thanked the volunteers for their high sense of national responsibility as well as their important role in suppressing the fraud and monopoly violations and enforcing the consumer protection laws”.
Moreover, the Consumer Protection Director Engineer Tarek Younes explained the role of the Consumer Protection Directorate as well as the methods of implementing the applicable laws in the field of controlling the markets and goods in the shops and trading establishments.
