Minister of Economy and Trade, Amin Salam, confirmed that the government is determined to get Lebanon out of its current crisis noting that Lebanon also wishes to strengthen relations with the Arab Gulf Countries and the United States of America as well as to restore the international confidence.
In this regard, Salam visited during his stay in Washington, the US Department of States and met the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Ethan Goldrich; the Director of Mashreq Office, Steven Butler; the Director of Financial Affairs & Head of the Economic Office at the State Department, Greg Schiffer; Senior Official in the Lebanese Office Sarah Saperstein and the Administrative Assistant Carlos Dejuanna. The Chargé d'Affaires of the Lebanese Embassy, Wael Hashem and Secretary Sawsan Awad were also present.
Salam presented the severe crisis that Lebanon is currently facing and the hardship of the task entrusted to the government. He stressed that there is an effort to achieve a serious economic plan for recovery and a desire to strengthen relations with the Arab Gulf Countries and the United States of America in addition to restore international confidence.
He also pointed out that all efforts are currently focused on stopping the economic collapse, starting the recovery process and stopping the inflation.
Moreover, Salam highlighted that the government is determined to get Lebanon out of its current crisis, explaining that he met with many ambassadors of influential and donor countries. He also talked about his meeting with the US Ambassador to Beirut, Dorothy Shea, where they had constructive discussions about the US economic support for Lebanon. In addition, he mentioned that he had participated in the meetings held in Beirut two weeks ago by the members of the US Congress all of which indicated a positive impression.
Furthermore, Minister Salam spoke about the major positive breach that occured during the visit of French President, Emmanuel Macron, to Saudi Arabia and the phone call that took place between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman and Prime Minister Najib Mikati , which changes the course of things. At the end, he stressed the importance of restoring the best relations with the Gulf Cooperation Council Countries.
