Minister of Economy and Trade madea productive phone call with his German counterpart, the State Secretary and Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Action

Minister of Economy and Trade, Amin Salam, made today a productive phone call with his German counterpart, the State Secretary and Federal Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Action, Udo Philipp, to discuss issues of great concern for Lebanon and the friendly Federal  Republic of Germany.

Minister Salam started his phone call by thanking the Republic of Germany for its economic, educational and social efforts exerted in this regard as well as for the commitment of the German Government to offer 96 million euros to Lebanon (103 million dollars) during the International Conference held in Paris last month to help and support Lebanon maintaining its social, economic and institutional stability. He also thanked the Republic of Germany for its political and human efforts exerted in reaching the ceasefire agreement and its effective contribution in the UNIFIL troops reaching more than one hundred soldier since 2006, in the UNIFIL Maritime Task Force, that supports securing and monitoring the Lebanese territorial waters; preventing the unauthorized entry of arms; that helps building Lebanon’s Naval capabilities in addition to training the Lebanese Navy and strengthening capacities.  

Minister Salam also discussed with the German Minister, Udo Philipp, means of enhancing and developing the insurance sector in Lebanon, especially within the reconstruction process and the pressures that the insurance companies working in Lebanon were exposed to following the recent attacks and their impacts in all fields, such as the air industry and the Middle East Airlines, Lebanon’s national carrier in addition to companies and factories that were destructed and vandalized on all the Lebanese territories due to the last Israeli aggression. They also discussed possible ways of cooperating to emerge from the crisis as soon as possible..

Moreover, both parties discussed ways of supporting the Lebanese economy and society during the post-war period and the aggression’ ending in order to start the reconstruction process for the State institutions and the people’s interests and enterprises, namely the small and individual ones…

In his turn, the German Minister thanked Minister Salam for his follow up and his national efforts exerted to enhance the Lebanese-German relations. He also invited Minister Salam to visit Germany next month and meet the major industrial and trading companies as well as the German re-insurance companies cooperating with the Lebanese companies to boost the cooperation between the two countries in terms of the economic sector, to develop programs and to elaborate rescue and developments plans for the economic and insurance sectors.    

To end, Minister Salam thanked his German counterpart and the Republic of Germany for its lasting positivity shown for the Lebanese people and Government in all circumstances; confirming that he will visit Germany next month and keep the communication channels opened between Berlin and Beirut for the interest of both the two brotherly and friendly countries.
