Minister of Economy and Trade held several meetings in Geneva with senior officials in international organizations
Minister of Economy and Trade Amin Salam held several meetings in Geneva with senior officials in international organizations in the presence of Permanent Representative of Lebanon to the UN and International Organizations Salim Baddoura as well as the Ambassador in the Lebanese delegation Ms. Sara Nasr.
Minister Salam met with the Director General of the World Trade Organization Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala at the WTO headquarters in the presence of the Vice Director General to the Organization, the Chinese Ambassador Zhang Xiangchen and the Director of the Accession Department Mrs. Maika Oshikawa. To this end, discussions tackled ways of reviving Lebanon’s accession to the WTO and the importance of maintaining progress in this direction.
Both parties agreed on the complementarity between that the needed reforms to proceed with Lebanon’s negotiations with the World Trade Organization on one hand or and those needed to unlock international support and enter into a program with the International Monetary Fund definitely.
Mrs. Iweala praised the visit of Minister Salam to the WTO headquarters and promised to provide Lebanon with WTO technical assistance to enhance the skills of the Lebanese negotiating team.
