Minister of Economy and Trade, Amin Salam, held a meeting in the capital of Bahrain, Manama, with the Housing and Urban Planning Minister Amina bint Ahmed Al Rumaihi to discuss about exchanging experiences in a way that contributes in driving the national economy growth.
In this regard, Minister Al Rumaihi expressed her love to Lebanon and its people, in addition to her appreciation for the cooperation bridges built between the countries; thanking Minister Salam for this meeting to learn from her about means to benefit from the Bahraini Housing Ministry’ skills and experiences; namely in terms of its success in cooperation with the national and foreign private sector, especially the Chinese one; as well as to access to ways of transmitting this experience to Lebanon in order to drive the economic sector again through the most important factor; that is to say through urbanism and reconstruction within the absence of the banking sector , considered the main supporter of those with low and medium incomes in their endeavors to buy houses.
On his turn, Minister Salam explained to Minister Al Rumaihi the ongoing attempts and efforts to diversify the funding sources in order to assure the sustainability of the housing loans granted to the Lebanese; praising the support provided, since two years, from the Arab Fund for Economic Development, located in Kuwait, to the Housing bank to fund the purchase of houses for those with low and medium incomes; stressing on the youth generation who aspire to build a family; the thing that re-launched the real-estate sector.
Furthermore, Salam added: “there is plenty of work to do in Lebanon on the long term; especially in the coming period when things calm down in Lebanon and Syria; which, I think, it will witnesses the largest urban and reconstruction project in the world given the huge destruction that affected the villages, cities and the already old infrastructures.
For this reason, we shall be prepared to take advantage and drive our economy growth by focusing on reconstruction through attracting companies specialized in the construction, exterior and interior design, furniture manufacture and others, to establish their headquarter in Lebanon heading toward the reconstruction process”.
