Minister of Economy and Trade, Amin Salam, held a meeting with Mrs. Beth Roberts, Vice President of the Office of Foreign Policy at the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), one of the biggest International Development institutions that stresses over the private sector in the developing countries through the private sector; boosting the economic development and growth; creating job opportunities and enhancing the life of citizens and societies..
To this end, Minister Salam aimed, through expanding his activities and meetings this week in Washington with all the U.S. actors on the development and economic level, to discuss means of cooperation, boost the economic support to Lebanon through the investments and development projects in various sectors with the cooperation of the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) in Washington; given the confirmations shown by the Minister’ reliable and direct sources cooperating with the newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump, along with the positive atmosphere further promoted toward Lebanon and the Middle East with the new U.S. phase; in addition to the commitment of President Trump reflected in his speeches and presidential agenda based upon which the American people elected him; namely the support he received from the Arab community, in particular the Lebanese one in view of his written undertaking to build peace and promote development and growth in the region.
Furthermore, both parties discussed fields that the Corporation can support through investing in Lebanese and American local and international companies in addition to participating in funding projects launched by international financial corporations whereof Minister Salam submitted to Mrs. Beth Roberts future plans and perceptions in addition to positive and productive job opportunities for both parties.
In this regard, Minister Salam expressed his appreciation for the continuous cooperation with the International Development Finance Corporation, stressing the importance of this support under the economic challenges that Lebanon is facing. Minister Salam also showed keenness to enhance the partnership opportunities, thus contributing to achieve sustainable development.
In her turn, Mrs. Beth Roberts, Vice President of the Office of Foreign Policy, affirmed to Minister Amin Salam that Lebanon constitutes an important supporting point in the region, given its distinguished geographic location and its wealth; stressing that the cooperation with the Lebanese people and Government, remains one of the Corporation’ most important goals.
