Minister of Economy & Trade signed with Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, the Chairman and founder of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global
Minister of Economy & Trade, Amin Salam, signed with Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, the Chairman and founder of Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global, a memorandum of understanding in terms of cooperation in the field of intellectual property between the Ministry and Abu-Ghazaleh Intellectual Property- TMP Agents s.a.r.l, to cooperate in the field of intellectual property, combatting piracy and maintaining Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises.
In this regard, Salam stressed the necessity to foster the role of the Directorate of Intellectual Property Protection for the effect of the intellectual property on the economy is undeniable, as nations export their sciences and technologies equally as their human and natural resources. It is to mention that different exported products mainly rely on their characteristics acquainted by scientific and development researches.
Moreover, Salam considered that countries differ according to their exports constituted from natural, agricultural and industrial resources; while noting that competition nowadays has clearly shifted towards sciences and technologies. On the economic level, these sciences affect exports, job opportunities as well as medical, scientific and military progress.
He also stated that the future of the nations rely heavily on their scientific assets, whether on the economic or scientific levels. Despite the fact that natural resources are exhaustible on the long term, however human creativity is not. Hence, countries invest in education and its results such as important researches and development. The frustration and disappointment of intellectuals, authors and scientists witnessed nowadays in our Arab world resulting from the lack of literature works and the abstention of the printing process are mainly caused by the vulnerability of the intellectual property’ protection that consequently causes the financial return to be almost non-existent. The same applies to the scientific researches’ results, for the enterprises will not invest in searching and developing an environment that does not protect its intellectual rights and that does not guarantee the development of their researches’ results from being stolen. Within the absence of these laws, the matrix of the scientific research will be at risk with all the ensuing consequences constituted of the economic, social and cultural development as well as the country’s progress as a whole. These justifications stand behind the fact that great economies are keener to protect their military secrets for these technologies encompass the future of any economy.
Furthermore, Salam confirmed to Abu Ghazaleh that their technical and physical support is more than welcome, for we are in need for it and glad to cooperate with Talal Abu-Ghazaleh Global, in particular. In brief, this is the beginning of a long course.
