Minister Amin Salam held a lengthy meeting with the Jordanian Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Youssef Chemali, and the accompanying delegation participating in the preparatory meeting of the Arab Economic and Social Council on the ministerial level for the 33rd ordinary session of the Arab Summit hosted by the Bahrain capital, Manama.
The meeting touched on issues of common interest aiming to enhance cooperation between both countries in the trade, investment and industry fields in addition to means of supporting and developing them.
On his turn, Minister Salam assured to Minister Chemali that the common sector pioneering in the Middle East is the technology sector, mainly in Jordan and Lebanon; adding that the technology industry, consisting of programs, applications and technological evolution, has succeeded in our countries and our youth have proved their innovation in this sector witnessing an increasing demand on their experiences and innovations which their value exceeded millions of dollars starting from Europe to America.. For this reason, the cooperation in this field, the creation of joint committees to follow up on the technology market between our countries and the mutual coordination, even integration, instead of competition, constitute new paths that we can follow and adopt to simulate electronic progress and artificial intelligence in the world… not to mention also the cooperation in the agriculture and food sector which is of great importance in our countries.
On this occasion, Minister Chemali revealed to Minister Salam, as the head of the Ministerial Committee on Food Security, the importance of the Jordanian action to build horizontal wheat silos to support the food security in the Kingdom of Jordan as well as to enhance the wheat strategic stock by assuring additional quantities that meet the population’ needs under the exceptional circumstances in addition to the possibility of the Lebanese Sate to benefit from the Jordanian experience in this field. Moreover, both parties decided to organize a field visit to the storage silos in Jordan.
To conclude, it was also agreed to hold a bilateral meeting between Jordan and Lebanon to discuss the investment field as well as the trade and economic cooperation. In this regard, the date was set to be announced soon.
