Minister of Economy and Trade Mansour Bteish met this morning with a delegation of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) headed by the Director for Global  Relations Andreas Schaal in the presence of the Ministry’s Director General Mrs. Alia Abbas. Talks between the two parties touched on the organization role in the region.

In this regard, Schaal expressed the organization willingness to improve the investments environment and ways of promoting the lebanese economy through supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in order to recover the economy, create new investment opportunities and  develop the digital economy while stressing the importance of the woman role in the future of Lebanon’ economy.

On his turn, Bteish stressed “the importance of creating a business- friendly environment, providing economic incentives to boost the growth and increase the volume of the economy”, stating that “the government pays special attention to address the financial deficit and stimulate the production in order to improve the trade balance”. Minister Bteish also insisted on the fact that “SMEs are the engines of economic growth, namely that lebanese economy is services-oriented while our ambition today is to transform it into a productive country at the same time”.

Furthermore, Minister Bteish drew particular attention to the necessity of “recovering the economy to equally distribute it on all lebanese regions, thus allowing a comprehensive growth” and stressing on “the importance of the technology and digital economy sectors whereof Lebanon is keen to extend its investments in this field”.

In the afternoon, Minister Bteish welcomed Minister of Industry Wael Bou Faour in the presence of the Ministry’s Director General Mrs. Alia Abbas and discussed the importance of cooperation and integration between the two ministries to boost the industrial production and the lebanese economy, in general.

Later on, Minister Bteish met with the Chinese Ambassador to Lebanon, Wang Kejian whereof discussions tackled the bilateral ties and ways of enhancing trade exchange between Lebanon and China.
