Minister Activities for today date 30-9-2019
Minister of Economy and Trade, Mansour Bteish, welcomed this morning the UK Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Lebanon, Lord Richard John Grenville Spring (Lord Risby) accompanied with the UK’ Ambassador to Lebanon Hugo Shorter and discussed the country’s general conditions.
In this regard, Minister Bteish conducted a debrief for the monetary, finanicial and economic situation stressing on the necessity to boost and develop the national industrial and agricultural productive sectors according to Mckensey report. The Minister also called for “boosting the cooperation between both countries and for better engaging the United Kingdom to invest in Lebanon given the enabling environment it provides”.
Furthermore, Minister Bteish thanked the United Kingdom for the role it played in terms of providing surveillance equipments for the lebanese army to control the land borders which proved to be effective.
On his turn, Lord Spring praised both the Lebanese government and Minister Bteish for their engagement in boosting the partnership with the United Kingdom. He also showed interest in Mckinsey report that sheds the light on sectors of high importance for lebanon; considering that the adoption of this plan shall provide a favourable investment climate regarding the seriousness shown by the Lebanese government to develop its sectors, boost the growth and reduce the deficit.
Later in the afternoon, Minister Bteish met, in the presence of Director General of Economy and Trade, with Minister of Investment and International Cooperation Sahar Nasr acconpanied with the Egypptian Ambassador to lebanon Nazih Najari. Both parties made a follow-up discussion to what was agreed during the joint commitetee meeting.
Discussions also tackled the memorandum of understanding regarding the registration of locally manufactured medicines in the Republic of Egypt in order to facilitate its export to Egypt and all other Arab countries.
