As Ramadan approaches, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Economy and Trade and was attended by the Director General of Economy and Trade, Mrs. Alia Abbas, staff of the Consumer Protection Directorate, heads and representatives of syndicates of traders and Importers of foodstuffs; consumers products; poultry and meat; hotels and gas stations owners in addition to representatives of the consumer associations.

The attendees discussed the issue of price controls during the holy month of Ramadan whereof Mrs. Abbas asked the participants to coordinate with the Ministry of Economy and Trade in order to prevent any unjustified increase in the price of the most consumed foodstuffs and consumers products during this holy month. In addition, Mrs. Abbas discussed the powers conferred upon the Ministry to control the violations.

Mrs. Abbas also praised the positive role played by these syndicates and associations during the last years within the framework of cooperation with Ministry of Economy and Trade to prevent any commercial exploitation during this holy month whether regarding the prices increase or the manipulation practices on the food safety.

Furthermore, discussions tackled some of the ideas and suggestions aiming to stimulate the commercial activity as well as to guide and increase the consumers awareness of their rights.
