Minister of Economy and Trade Amin Salam: “Lebanon will regain its pioneering role within its Arabic environment as a hub for the international and regional trade”
As a result of the Ministry of Economy and Trade’ hard work and following the ongoing coordination between the Ministry, the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation and the Arab League, we would like to congratulate Lebanon for joining the program of the Aid for Trade Initiative for Arab States (AfTIAS 2), on an exceptional basis and being exempted from settling the financial contribution, under the patronage of the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation.
To this end, Salam stated that the Arab region needs, now more than ever, to rely on the trade sector to assist in resolving the current and urgent issues such as the prevalence of food insecurity; the Corona virus; the climate change and the disruptions of the supply chain. For this reason, the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation cooperates with its various partners to benefit from the available opportunities on both regional and international levels in order to increase the profits of the Arab countries from the international trade as well as to improve the trade environment in the Arab region. It is to mention that joining the program will surely open promising horizons for Lebanon in order to cooperate with the Arab and Islamic members countries in addition to benefit from the adopted trade and development projects.
Furthermore, Salam added that, despite the huge challenges encountered and with the support of the Arab institutions, Lebanon will definitely regain its pioneering role within the Arab and Regional trade environment with a new economic identity once joining the petroleum countries’ club.
Finally, we would like to extend our thanks and gratitude to the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation and the Islamic Development Bank for their huge support to the Lebanese Republic during the challenging circumstances that the country is witnessing.
