Lebanese Ministry of Economy and Trade and Fair Trade Lebanon (FTL) and sign the Memorandum of Understanding under the scope of the BIEEL project initiated by US-MEPI, to develop Lebanon’s agri-food sector and boost exports:
The Lebanese Minister of Economy and Trade Amin Salam, and Fair Trade Lebanon, represented by its President Mr. Samir Abdelmalak, signed the MoU under the “Enhance Business innovation and Exports for Lebanon” (BIEEL) a project initiated by US MEPI and implemented by FTL with the aim to support local producers and cooperatives in the agri-food sector in developing their business and easing access to export markets.
Together, FTL and the Ministry of Economy and Trade will collaborate to promote Lebanese gastronomy and specialty food products, through the organization international exhibitions and trade missions in targeted countries having promising markets for Lebanese products to ease access of exports and help local producers expands.
The two entities will also cooperate to increase capacities of the beneficiaries’ by organizing a number of specialized workshops on food safety, export standards, and others. Moreover, they will jointly develop a national brand for Lebanese products, including design, setting standards for producers to be able to benefit from this brand, and establishing a working mechanism through which willing producers can benefit from this service.
In light of the current situation the country is facing, this partnership is vital to support the agri-food sector in Lebanon, boost exports, and help small and medium sized producers and cooperatives.
