Minister of Economy and Trade Raed Khoury declared that the competent judicial authority had drawn up records of evidence and penal decisions amounting from 5 to 10 million Lebanese pounds against the offenders in terms of the generators counters. Minister Khoury praised the judicial authority readiness which acted within 48 hours, stressing that “the amount of these records will increase in parallel to the offences numbers”.
In this regard, Khoury stated at the Palace of Justice in Jdeideh that “the decisions and laws are taken for the sake of the citizen. The generators counters saved from 60% to 80% of the invoices amount while keeping the right of the generator’ owner” noting that “some of the owners of the generators that were seized are collecting their invoices from the consumers based on the lump sum approach” stressing on the fact that “those offenders will be charged, arrested and brought to justice”.
Furthermore, Khoury added that “around 2000 records of evidence will be settled within one month maximum” considering that “municipalities are directly elected by the citizens thus, they are responsible for implementing the Ministerial decisions. As for the offending municipality, it will be brought to justice and dissolved, if necessary, by agreement with the Minister of Interior and Municipalities Nohad El Machnouk, in the event the municipal council did not abide by the Ministry’s decisions”.
