Child Consumer Activities
Minister of Economy and Trade, Mansour Bteish, declared that “the consumer protection starts with young consumers for they are the future of the country and the next generation on whom we count”; adding that the role of the Consumer Protection Directorate is not only limited to punishing the laws and regulations’ offenders but also consists in raising citizens’ awareness and education about their rights.
Minister Bteish made this statement during his participation in the second phase of the national awareness campaign for young consumers, aged between 6 and 13 years, about the food safety organized by the Ministry of Economy and Trade at the “City Mall” – Dora.
This activity is considered one of a series of activities organized in the occasion of the World Consumer Rights Day celebrated on March 15th.
Moreover, Bteish thanked the Consumer Protection Directorate for its efforts and promised “to follow-up this campaign in all the regions”. In this occasion, the Ministry’s employees welcomed, in presence of university students’ volunteers, young children who were shopping with their parents and accompanied them in an educational tour to raising their awareness on their rights as consumers; the order of purchasing the foodstuffs from the shopping list; to check the dates, content, language and the products’ safety.
The Ministry had previously launched an awareness campaign for young consumers that included short indicative advertisings entitled “Salim and Fahim” in terms of food safety.
The cartoon character “Fahim” was present in the event and accompanied the children in the tour where they took photos together.
