A project that constitutes a paradigm shift between the Ministry of Economy & Trade and the World Food Programme
Boosting the markets’ transparency and establishing the competition
In continuation of the Ministry of Economy & Trade’ process in boosting transparency and fighting corruption, the Ministry has adopted a new measure that reflects its commitment toward the transparency boosting and the consumer protection. To this end, Minister of Economy & Trade, Amin Salam, held a meeting with the World Food Programme in the presence of the Director General of the Ministry, Dr. Mohamad Abou Haidar, during which a joint initiative was launched between the Ministry of Economy & Trade and the Organization aiming at: 1- Publish a monthly list of the average of commodities prices in the markets, which makes easier for the consumers to know the living costs and consequently compare the prices; 2- Issue detailed monthly reports regarding the prices’ average, which allows the inspectors of the Consumer Protection Directorate to track the price changes of the main commodities on both the local and international level, thus contributing in the realization of the prices’ stability and the protection of the citizens’ purchase capacity.
