A delegation of the old rent non -residential buildings’ landlords of Lebanon visited Minister of Economy
to object the rejection of the Rent Act.
Minister of Economy M. Amin Salam welcomed a delegation of the old rent non -residential buildings’ landlords of Lebanon; represented by the head of the delegation, Lawyer Andira Al Zahri and the Advisor Dr. Mohamad Khachkhach; whereof discussions tackled the decision of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers stating the rejection of the Rent Act for the non -residential buildings. In this regard, the old rent landlords considered that this rejection is unconstitutional and illegal; as well as it undermines a large group of old rent landlords who already suffered so much from the exceptional extended and unjust laws for more than 70 years and which were extended more than 24 times.
Furthermore, the delegation revealed some official statistics provided by the Ministry of Public Finance; and proved by numbers, contrary to what was rumored, the numbers of old non -residential rent representing around 22 per cent compared to the large group of new rent landlords who pay fair rents in addition to percentages related to rents belonging to the State and Public Administrations which represent 2.63 per cent.
In his turn, his Excellency expressed his solidarity and full understanding regarding the suffering faced by the old rent landlords. In this regard, he revealed to the delegation that he was among the Ministers who objected the rejection of the Rent Act and promised them to claim for the causative reasons as well as the legal and constitutional grounds that have been relied upon in order to reject the said Act.
