Statement Regarding selling books and school supplies
Minister of Economy and Trade Mansour Bteish issued a joint decision with Minister of Education and Higher Education calling from “the private schools libraries to strictly comply with the Consumer Protection Act when selling books and school supplies, namely in terms of the prices declaration in Lebanese lira and without forcing parents to purchase these commodities exclusively from them”.
Moreover, the said decision banned “the private schools libraries from selling the locally printed books in prices different than those determined by the Syndicate of Publishers Union and approved by the Ministry of Economy and Trade”.
The decision also stipulates that “joint inspection patrols should be organized between the two ministries to control the application of the decision’ provisions and seizure reports should be made against the offenders”.
