Statement made by the Ministry of Economy and Trade concerning food products made in Israel

Fri 13 January 2017
Further to what has been recently circulated on social media about food products made in Israel sold in some points of sale in the Lebanese markets, Ministry of Economy & Trade states that the said products are made in Thailand. It is mentioned on their cover that these products are imported for Nestlé Branches worldwide, where it appears all the branches addresses, such as the company’s branch in Bethlehem.
Although the said products are not Israeli made, and hence they are not breaching the Israel Boycott law, the Ministry compelled the importing company to conceal any terms that have to deal with Israel. For this purpose, the Ministry inspectors supervised the operation of placing banners on all products in order to hide these terms.
Moreover, the concerned company undertook not to import, in the future, any products showing terms or connotations related to Israel.
In this regard, the Ministry emphasizes that it will follow up the investigations in this matter in order to control any violation and take the adequate administrative and legal actions against possible violators.
