Minister of Economy and Trade Mansour Bteish issued today Circular n° 4/1/E.T regarding the mandatory displaying of prices in Lebanese pounds, which states as follows:

Pursuant to applicable laws and regulations, in particular article five of the Consumer Protection Law n° 659/2005, stipulating that the supplier shall conspicuously display prices in Lebanese pounds whether on the goods or on the shelves where such goods are displayed.

As it appeared to the Ministry of Economy and Trade that some of the merchants intentionally displayed the prices in dollars solely, contrary to the law, the thing that may cause confusion in financial markets and reflect negatively on the consumer interest.

Therefore, the Ministry of Economy and Trade asks all the merchants to display prices in Lebanese pounds and strictly abide by the applicable laws under penalty of taking appropriate legal actions against them for referral to competent courts.
